Bankoh unveils
branch of future

Photos By Kathryn Bender, Star-Bulletin
The new Waikiki branch of Bank of Hawaii, the first bank
in the islands to have tellers on another floor handling
customers' transactions through two-way audiovisual
systems, opened yesterday at 2228 Kalakaua Ave. Its
"bank of the future" features include automated teller
machines in the ground-floor lobby that can change
foreign currencies into dollars and soon will be able
to cash checks. A separate ATM lobby, entered by
a security door, is open 24 hours a day seven days
a week. Upstairs is a full-service bank with "live"
tellers and additional Asian specialists fluent in
Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Above, bank
employee Margo Corliss shows how to use a
tube to send papers upstairs from the lobby.
Below, second-floor tellers Melanie Hite, left,
and Vasiti Fatai talk to lobby customers
through video terminals.
