Pepperdine's Lindsey Wright took over the individual lead as the Waves opened up a seven-stroke lead in the team competition going into today's final round of the Donnis Thompson Rainbow Wahine Invitational Golf Tournament at the Olomana Golf Links yesterday.

Wright shot an even-par 72 for a 36-hole total of 143. One stroke back at 144 are Arizona's Jenna Daniels and Cristina Baena, who both posted the day's best score - a 3-under-par 69.

Despite their 69s, the Wildcats - the No. 1-ranked women's team in college golf - are in third place at 594 behind Pepperdine (585) and Southern Cal (592).

Hawaii is tied for fifth with Oklahoma at 630 in the 13-school field. Leading Wahine scorers are Kathy Cho (155) and Melissa Shintani (156).

"I did not putt well. I missed three birdie putts under five feet on the first five holes," said Daniels, ranked No. 1 in the nation. "I struggled a bit with the wind."

Baena, whose older sister Marisa now plays on the LPGA Tour, recorded seven birdies - five on the front nine. But she gave back four shots to par with bogeys at 8, 11, 13 and 14. Two of them came on three putts.
