Water Polo
setback for UH

Top-ranked California used a second-half surge to outlast No. 7 Hawaii, 10-4, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo match yesterday at Berkeley, Calif.

The loss ended a five-match win streak for the Wahine (14-8 overall, 3-6 MPSF). The Bears (19-2, 7-0) outscored Hawaii, 8-2, over the final two periods to extend their winning streak to 15.

Hawaii next heads to San Jose, Calif., for the MPSF Championships April 7-9.

On the road again

The University of Hawaii softball team visits southern California for six games, beginning with two at the University of San Diego tomorrow. The Wahine play Loyola Marymount in a doubleheader Sunday and 17th-ranked Long Beach State on Tuesday.

UH will try to ride the momentum of a sweep of the Lions in their WAC season-opening doubleheader on Tuesday.

Kamehameha tops poll

The defending state champion Kamehameha Warriors continue to top the Hawaii SportsNet-work.com girls high school basketball poll.

St. Louis got the most votes in the first baseball poll of the year.

Students race Saturday

Oahu high school students meet Saturday at Hawaii Raceway Park for the first annual NAPA Auto Care Center's "High School Challenge." The all-day event includes drag racing and the McKenna Pit Crew Challenge. The gates open at 10 a.m. and activities continue until about 5 p.m. Admission is $6.
