All eight members of the University of Hawaii men's swim team competing at the NCAA National Championship have earned All-American distinction based on their performances so far this week. Eight Hawaii swimmers
are All-AmericansNick Folker, Luis Rojas, Ramie Darling and David Jenkins were named to the first team following a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle event. Ed Lovell, Simon Thirsk, Pedro Ferriera and Terry Pruitt have earned honorable mention status.
Yesterday, the Rainbows competed in one event - the 200 medley relay - and finished 10th.
Hawaii slipped to 16th in the 33-team field with 53 points. Texas continues to lead the event heading into today's final races with 416 points.
UH swimmers will compete in three events today: the 400 freestyle relay, 100 freestyle (Folker and Rojas) and 200 backstroke (Thirsk).
Komine strikes out 13
Kalani High School graduate Shane Komine scattered two hits and struck out 13 last night to lead Nebraska to an 11-0 victory over Texas Tech in a Big 12 baseball game in Lincoln, Neb.The 13 strikeouts were a career high for Komine (4-2) as a starter. He struck out 15 in relief as a freshman last season.
Snildal wins GTE honor
Jannicke Snildal , a junior forward on the Hawaii Pacific University women's soccer team, was named to the GTE Academic All-District VIII squad for the second straight year yesterday.Snildal, a history major with a 3.96 grade-point average, is HPU's all-time leading scorer with 17 goals in the past three seasons.
Seasider softball sweep
The Brigham Young-Hawaii softball team swept a doubleheader yesterday for the first time this season, beating St. Martin's, 4-3 and 5-3, at Laie. Mandi Fobert and Summer George pitched complete games for the Seasiders.
