Star-BulletinGov. Ben Cayetano today announced that a new high-technology company has been formed in Honolulu to serve as the Hawaii partner of Axean Group, an information technology specialist that has been called one of the San Francisco Bay Area's fastest-growing businesses.
Axean Pacific provides information technology consulting services, software development and Web-based database management systems.
The new company, which is looking for a home in downtown Honolulu, is starting with 17 Hawaii employees and plans to have 30 workers by the end of its first year.
The company "is bringing Silicon Valley to the islands," Cayetano said at a press conference in his office, attended by Axean Group officials, and representatives of other computer and software companies, and the Hawaii Technology Trade Association.
Cayetano, who was on the mainland earlier this month to encourage high-technology businesses to set up shop in Hawaii, said Axean's entry is an example of the momentum the state has been building in developing a high-tech industry.
Axean Pacific is owned and operated by local information technology professionals. The chief executive officer is Dennis Daley and his partners are Pamela Rigg, chief operating officer, and Michael C. Fors.
The mainland company that Axean Pacific represents is a specialist in information technology management systems and consulting.
It sells network systems software and support programs that allow computers within an office or among offices of a business to share and exchange information smoothly.
Axean Group, based in Orinda, Calif., near San Francisco, was founded in 1996 by a group of information technology executives.
The Honolulu company will bring to Hawaii Axean's strategic partners, including Dell Computers, Cisco Systems, Sybase, Nextpoint Networks and Adecco Technical.
The company also will add into its business the work of Platinum Resources & Development Corp. LLC.
