Segal is moved
by seeing Green

ATTORNEY Michael Green and wife, Estelle, tossed a party for 22 people at Ciao Mein Monday to mark the birthdays of their son, Ari, 24, and actor Steven Segal. Segal, a Buddhist, was the Greens' house guest. He was en route to Japan to teach Buddhism. Estelle said she and Michael met the actor in L.A. when he came up to her and said "the karma pull was so strong that he knew me from a previous life." Estelle said she is not into karma and is a strong Christian. But they became friends with the star of action films who Estelle says is gentle, calm and quiet in real life. "I told Michael, please take lessons," she said. The Greens expect Segal to return here Monday ...

Jennifer had her share of fame

Jennifer Lam, the Palomino G.M., has had her shot at fame. She appeared on Broadway in "M. Butterfly" and was in the play's national tour. art by Hiroshi Tagami and Michael Powell is on display at Cedar Street Galleries through April 9. Midler's a picture of mean

Bette Midler, the Radford and UH alum, is a picture of mean in the title role of "Drowning Mona," and that's why Mona is knocked off early in the film. Through flashbacks, viewers see Mona with a nutty bunch of characters, all of whom have good reason to do her in. Mona is so mean and evil that she's funny and gets big laughs. Danny DeVito, the small-town's sheriff, appears to be the only normal person in town. The cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Neve Campbell and Casey Affleck ... The best film I've seen lately is "Wonder Boys," with Michael Douglas as a pot-smoking professor and author who has writer's block. The prof is married but is in love with another married woman, his college chancellor (Frances McDormand). Tobey Maguire is strong as the prof's most talented but most mixed-up student writer. "Wonder Boys" is a lively romp. Lively, despite the professor's woozy movements that get even slower after he is bitten by a big blind dog owned by his lover's husband. Isn't that funny? Don't miss this one ...
