Bishop Museum
Beachboys, the Waikiki Beach Patrol, circa 1935.
Opening date for the exhibition -- featuring historic photos, postcards and memorabilia recalling famous landmarks such as the original Waikiki Theater and Moana Hotel Banyan Court -- is Saturday. The public is welcome to share stories of Waikiki during a reception from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Visitors will also be able to listen songs that helped shape Hawaii's image as a South Seas paradise and view old film clips. Of course, no Waikiki story would be complete without a tribute to its famous beachboys.
The reception will also celebrate the "To Honor and Comfort: Native Quilting Traditions" exhibit that opened last week. Regular museum admission will be required, $14.95 for adults and $11.95 for children 4-12, with children under 3 admitted free. Kama'aina rates are $7.95 and $6.95 respectively.
The exhibit will continue through July 4. Call 847-3511.
