Marriott executive to pitch the Ilikai
Marriott International Inc. has promoted John Limper to the new position of area director of marketing for Marriott and Renaissance hotels in Hawaii just in time to represent the company's newest local franchise, the 783-room Ilikai. The hotel, which has been renamed the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki, was sold last week to a Taiwanese investor who arranged the Marriott franchise. It is managed by Interstate Hotels Corp.Limper, based at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, is also responsible for advertising, public relations and sales for the Ihilani, Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club, Maui Marriott Resort & Ocean Club and Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort. His 19 years in hotel marketing have included Marriott posts in Florida, the Caribbean and Texas.
Marriott also installed John Homer, a veteran of 30 years in international hotel management, as general manager of the Ihilani. British-born Homer has worked as general manager of hotels in Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the mainland.
Marc Hotels gains 20th isle contract
Marc Hotels & Resorts Inc. has been chosen to manage the Kaulana Kai Hotel, a 96-room property at 2425 Kuhio Ave. in Waikiki.The hotel has been renamed the Waikiki Marc. Honolulu-based Marc Hotels now manages 20 Hawaii properties.
Mortgage rates drop to 8.31%
The average interest rate on 30-year mortgages slipped to 8.31 percent this week, down from 8.38 percent the week before, the mortgage company Freddie Mac said today. Fifteen-year mortgages fell to an average rate of 7.92 percent, vs. 8 percent last week. One-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged an initial rate of 6.73 percent this week vs. 6.77 percent last week.
