Jon Garcia has been around Baldwin High School athletics for 28 years -- first as a basketball coach, then the past 14 years as athletic director. Its all good for Baldwin
But never has he -- or the Wailuku community, for that matter -- experienced anything like the success the Bears enjoyed over the past weekend.
"Not at all, not even close," Garcia said, when asked if anything could compare with winning the Maui Interscholastic League basketball championship on Friday night, and the state championships in girls' soccer and swimming on Saturday, as well as the MIL wrestling crown.
Also, earlier this month, the boys' soccer team and girls' softball team advanced to state semifinals.
"Another year in the early '90s we were named Athletic School of the Year by KHON," Garcia said. "But we had a select group of athletes who all played three sports. Never before have we had so many kids in different winter sports dominate the league."
Ex-Trojan makes history:
Alissa Schneider, a former Mililani swimmer now competing for Juniata College in Pennsylvania, won the school's first-ever Middle Atlantic Conference individual swimming championship Friday night.Schneider took the gold in the 400-yard individual medley. with a time of 4:50.

Iolani won seven straight state wrestling championships from 1988 to 1994. Kamehameha has won the past three titles. But the Raiders look like the favorite as the Data House State Wrestling Championships get underway Friday at Blaisdell Arena. St. Louis, which won back-to-back state titles in 1972 and 1973, could also make a run at the title. BOYS' WRESTLING
