Continuing a
treasured tradition

By Ken Sakamoto, Star-Bulletin
Julia White, curator of Asian Art at the Honolulu
Academy of Arts, displays a piece -- "Bowl with
Design of Plant and Flowers," by Imaisumi Yoshio
-- that is part of an exhibit of contemporary Japanese
crafts. The exhibit opens tomorrow and features work
by master Japanese craftsmen. The six-part exhibition
runs through April 16 in the second-floor galleries
at the Academy.
Waves too wild

By George F. Lee, Star-Bulletin
High surf drew many people to Oahu's North Shore
over the weekend, though they remained beach-bound.
Water safety officers closed access to the waves at
Waimea Beach Park to only the most experienced
swimmers and surfers. The National Weather
Service is predicting eight- to 12-foot waves
off all shores today.
