Great Britain's Malcolm Campbell won this morning's Great Aloha Run for an unprecedented third consecutive year, finishing the 8.15-mile race from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium in a non-record 41 minutes, 41 seconds.
Campbell, an Olympic marathon hopeful, bested the field of some 22,000 participants in Hawaii's largest "fun run.'' California's Joseph Nitti was second in 42:06 while Jonathan Lyau, the 1994 winner, was the first Hawaii finisher - and third overall - in 43:12.
The first female finisher was Hawaii's Heather Jorris, timed in a non-record 48:41. Hawaii Pacific students Nina Christiansen (49:15) and Lisa Blomme (50:23), both from Sweden, were second and third, respectively.
Greg Hao repeated as the winner in the wheelchair division with first-time participant Richard Julian second. Their times were unavailable.
Officials had anticipated a course record but a slight drizzle may have prevented Campbell from breaking the 1987 mark of 39:08.
