The one who got away

At least one Hawaii woman can say that she turned down the chance to marry a multi-millionaire.

Four days after the Jan. 7 search for contestants for the Fox TV special "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire," Corey Westcott got the call to appear on the show, which aired Tuesday.

The 26-year-old account executive for radio station Star 101.9 said, "I thought about it for two days, then turned it down. It was, ohhh, if I win, this would be the rest of my life."

She had gone to the auditions simply to help out sister radio station I-94. "I didn't think anything would come from it."

After watching the program and seeing the groom, real estate investor and motivational speaker Rick Rockwell, Westcott says, "I'm glad I didn't do it.

"They said he was the perfect marrying age but he looked old to me, at least for my perfect marrying age."

As it happens, Rockwell, 42, did choose someone closer to his age, Darva Conger, 34, an emergency room nurse from Santa Monica.

a two-hour prime-time competition,
"Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire."

Westcott, who says she "sort of" has a boyfriend, said even if she couldn't find Mr. Right on her own, she wouldn't appear on a program to marry a millionaire.

"I grew up in an affluent Texas neighborhood and I've seen what money can do to people. I think you can be happy without it. I know that after coming to Hawaii, where I don't have any money.

"Plus, family life is very important to me. In this case, I didn't know anything about him, whether he wanted a family or how he grew up."

And what did Westcott's parents think?

"My father said, 'Thank you for not going on TV and embarrassing our family.' "
