Punter Greg Kleidon, a junior college All-American last season at Santa Monica (Calif.) College, has signed a letter of intent to play for Hawaii this fall, UH coach June Jones announced yesterday. Junior college punting
standout signs with UHKleidon, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior, averaged 44 yards per punt. He is expected to step in for All-Western Athletic Conference punter Chad Shrout.
The signing was the 22nd so far for the UH football team.
Junior golf benefit
The Chi Chi Rodriguez World Junior Masters in Hawaii, a three-person modified scramble tournament to benefit junior golf here, will be played March 24, at the Honolulu Country Club.The field will be limited to the first 72 teams or 216 players entered before the March 1 deadline. Entry fees are $125 (per individual) or $300 (per team). Donations for hole sponsors are $100, for corporate sponsors $300.

Fees include lunch from 11 a.m. to noon and dinner, with awards and prizes, after the tournament, which starts at 12:30 p.m.

HIC Pro postponed
The 15th annual HIC Pro surfing meet at Pipeline was postponed yesterday due to marginal conditions and waves only in the four foot range.A new swell is forecast to arrive later in the week, heading into the weekend. Predictions call for heights possibly up to 20 feet.
The meet has approximately two more days of competition remaining and will take place within the allocated waiting period through Feb. 25. Competition will be held on the three days that Pipeline is at its best.
The HIC Pro is the fourth and final event of the inaugural Asahi Grand Slam of Surfing. Hawaii's Pancho Sullivan heads the rankings in the $50,000 series, which serves as a platform for aspiring local Hawaii surfers to break into international tournaments.
