attend Waikiki
genetics meeting

Queen's at the Feb. 27
conference in WaikikiTwenty-four high school science students from across Hawaii will be guests of the Queen's Medical Center at a genetics conference at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Feb. 27-March 1.
The students were selected to attend the second annual "From Discovery to Practice: Genetics and Molecular Biology" conference based on exhibits and essays on genetics, molecular biology, cardiology, neuroscience and cardiology.
They are:
Kauai: Melody Camat, Terese Dela Cruz, Jerrick Fabro, Llayla Liberato, Heather Medina, Jennifer Tambio and Camilla Wright of Waimea High School; Brian Nishiguchi and Alicia Turlington of Kauai High School, and Lalona Woltmon of Island School.
Oahu: Daren Abe, Justin Gushiken and Kerilynne Savea of Castle High School; Jihye Jean of Kahuku High School; Gary Cheng, Kyle Karioka and Heather Anne Tsuffis of Roosevelt High School, and Debbie Liu, Melissa Renfro, Krista Yorita and Tiffany Young of St. Andrew's Priory.
Maui: Robin Yamaguma of Baldwin High School.
Big Island: Keith Alan Bondaug Jr., Hilo High School, and Ivette Syra Yamamoto of St. Joseph Junior/Senior High School.
The winners were chosen for the communication, instructional value, accuracy, neatness and creativity of their essays and description of a table-top exhibit on their subject.
Conference speakers will include Dr. Alan Guttmacher from the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health; Fred Gage of The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California, and Louis Kunkel, from Harvard Medical School and Howard Hughes Medical School.
Science teachers will accompany students to the conference.
The expenses for travel and lodging will be paid for those from the neighbor islands.
Special outings are planned to Planet Hollywood and the IMAX Waikiki theater.
