Violet C. Chai, 77, of Hilo, Hawaii died Wednesday. She was born in Honolulu. She worked in retail sales. She is survived by son Richard; daughters Yvonne De Mello and Sonia Adame; hanai son Garry Alconera, and sisters Lillian Grey and Caroline Ryan. Services: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park.

Joseph Kaukalima-I-Lunalilo Hookano-Hokoana, 28, of Lahaina, Maui died Wednesday in Maui Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wailuku, He is survived by mother Stephanie Hookano; grandmother Bernice Hokoana; companion Gina Hashimura; brothers Steven, Clarence Jr. and George Hookano; sister Claressa Hookano, and hanai brothers and sisters John III, Paul, Jerome and Donella Hokoana and Rose McCabe. Services: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ballard Family Mortuary. Call from 6 to 9 6 p.m.Cremation to follow. Leis only. Casual attire.

Leandra M. Balbarino Maddox, 29, of Twentynine Palms, Calif., formerly of Waialua, and infant daughter, McKenzie, died Jan. 30. Leandra was born in Wahiawa. She is survived by husband Arthur; son Timothy; daughters Analysa, LaShondra and Jordan; mother Theresa Balbarino; father Melvin Balbarino; maternal grandmother Melitona Balbarino, and sisters Melissa Biroan and Candace Balbarino. Haruye Ochi Nadatani, 77, of Kekaha, Kauai, a retired seamstress for Iolani Sportswear, died last Monday. She was born in Tacoma, Wash. She is survived by husband Joichi; sons Kenneth, Dean and James; daughter Joy Kagawa,sister Miyako Baba, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at the West Kauai Hongwanji Waimea Temple. Call after 9 a.m. Casual attire. No flowers.

Frank L. Nunes Santos, 92, of Kailua, died last Monday in Kaneohe. He was born in Paauilo. He was a retired construction materials manager with Lewers & Cooke Inc. He is survived by son Lawrence F. Santos Sr., four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hawaiian Memorial Park; call after 9 a.m. Burial:11 a.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery. Casual attire.

Elsie S. Sase, 88, of Makawao, a retired Avon representative, died Friday in Hale Makua, Kahului, Maui. She was born in Dubuque, Iowa. She is survived by daughter Elsie Bush, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Private family services were held. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cancer Institute of Maui, 221 Mahalani St., Wailuku 96793.

Donald M. Tomasa, 43, of Kailua, died Wednesday at Castle Medical Center. He was born in Honolulu. He was an elevator mechanic for Otis Elevator Co. He is survived by sons Derrick and Jeffrey; daughter Jenna; parents Masaru and Dorothy; sisters Carol and Beverly and Pachi Smith. Memorial services: 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hosoi Garden Mortuary chapel.
