The Radford Rams advanced to the semifinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association basketball playoffs last night with a 62-47 win over the Leilehua Mules.

The Rams' record remains unblemished at 11-0, while the Mules drop to the consolation bracket at 7-5.

The Rams' full-court press and an aggressive man-to-man half-court defense gave them a 21-10 lead with 3:11 left to play in the first quarter.

The Mules put together a burst of their own as they opened the second quarter with a run of seven unanswered points to trim the Rams lead to 23-22. At intermission, the trailed by a single point, 32-31.

The Rams finally put the Mules away in the fourth quarter when senior point guard Jacob Avilla connected on three straight shots. He led all scorers with 27 points, showcasing his inside-outside scoring ability with drives to the hoop as well as nailing five shots from beyond the arc.

Rams' head coach Tim Harrison said he was pleased that his team succeeded in playing an up-tempo game, "the kind we like to run."

"Jacob and Sa (Tanuvasa), our two leaders, basically took control of the game."

The Rams next face the Kalaheo Mustangs in the semifinals of the OIA playoffs next Wednesday.
