Masini the matchmaker

ROMANCE novel cover boy Fabio, he of the long locks and longing look, may have been hit in the nose by a goose while riding a roller coaster a few months ago, but it hasn't affected his vision. April Masini had her eye on the "I can't believeMug shot it's not butter" boy, not for herself, but for one of her clients, Joyce Giraud, former Miss Universe Puerto Rico. Fabio's a longtime friend of April's, but he's been spending the bulk of his time in Italy of late, so all was put on hold. Suddenly he turned up in Hollywood, and literally ran into the beauty queen on the street. She greeted him with, "Hi, I'm Joyce. You know my manager, April Masini." Next thing you know they were out on the town, causing quite a stir as the Beautiful People do in Tinseltown. April may have a new career as matchmaker, but she's not neglected her dealmaker role either -- she's helped Giraud land a role in a new USA Network comedy-thriller series, "G vs. E," set to debut this summer. Now if she can just keep Fabio away from roller coasters! ...

HER talent in the Miss Hawaii pageant last year was singing, so it doesn't come as a shock that the winner of the crown, Candes Meijide Gentry, has come out with a CD. She's hoping it'll be a success -- not to make money for herself -- but as a means of raising cash for the National Psoriasis Foundation. While she's already helped raise funds and increase awareness of such programs as Prevent Child Abuse, Girl Scouts, Hawaiian Humane Society, Red Cross, Literacy Hawaii, United Cerebral Palsy and others, she's taken a particular interest in psoriasis, since it's affected members of her family ...

Rockin' and rollin'

YOU may recall that a well-heeled chap on a cruise ship bought the elegant multiwooded rocking horse artist Bob Holden long had on display at Martin & MacArthur's Aloha Tower Marketplace shop. Well, Holden has done it again, creating rocker using 19 different varieties of wood. Called "Paniolo," it represents the ongoing dedication and spirit of the cattle industry in Hawaii. The new Holden original will be at M&M's Kahai Street workshop during its factory sale Feb. 17 through 26 ...

AND while we're talking about rocking and horsing around, promoter Tom Moffatt would seem to have a winner with the triple bill of aging rockers who'll be demonstrating they still have what it takes when they share the stage March 10 at Blaisdell Arena. Herman's Hermits (with original leader Peter Noone), Felix Cavaliere (original leader singer of the Young Rascals) with some even younger Rascals, and the Association. The third group became available when longtime member Larry Ramos got homesick for Hawaii. He still has family on Kauai ...

THE fascinating show, "Forever Tango 2000," which I saw in San Francisco in December, will be touring the Far East next month. It'd be a natural to snag the company to perform at, say, the Hawaii Theatre either en route or on the way back ... "Stomp" played at the Hawaii Theatre -- twice -- and "Tap Dogs" followed. Now comes "Cool Heat, Urban Beat," a hip-hop jazz tap show April 19-23. Let's "Tango." ...

Horrors!

WHEN Consolidated's Phil Shimmin told KHON's Joe Moore that his movie, "Moonglow," was the second most popular film in town at the moment, he suggested Moore make a horror film next. "I took off my shirt in 'Moonglow,' " said Moore. "How much horror do you want?" ...
