Freshman forward Bobby Nash scored a season-high 16 points and Iolani took over sole possesion of first place in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu last night with a 60-48 boys' basketball victory over previously unbeaten St. Louis.

The visiting Crusaders (4-1) led, 25-24, at halftime but the Raiders used a zone defense and outscored St. Louis, 18-3, in the third quarter to pull away.

"We stepped it up on defense and tried to make it hard for Junior Wong to score,'' said the 6-foot-6 Nash, who had nine of his points in the deciding third quarter.

Wong, the leading scorer for St. Louis, finished with a game-high 17 points, six of those points coming on free throws. No other Crusader was in double figures.

"It was a big win for us,'' said Iolani coach Mark Mugiishi. "St. Louis is known for cranking up the pressure and (sophomore point guard) Bronson Melemai did a super job handling the pressure."

For Iolani (5-0), Travis McGaughy finished with 12 points and Bobby Webster 11. Melemai had two turnovers in playing 32 minutes.

Casey Kushiyama scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the final period to lead University (3-3). Rodney Timario added 14, eight in the last quarter.

For Kamehameha (1-5), Isaiah Alapai scored 17 points, hitting three 3-pointers, while Kanoa Alapai added 14, hitting four 3-pointers.

Nanakuli (3-2) trailed, 36-35, after three periods but finished strong to secure its third win in five games.

Moanalua (3-1) was led by Jonathan Tanibe with 11 points.
