Olson in Boxing
Hall of Fame

Former world middleweight champion Carl "Bobo" Olson is Hawaii's first inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Olson will be inducted along with 11 others on June 11 on the Hall of Fame Museum Grounds in Canastota, N.Y.

He took the middleweight crown from Britain's Randy Turpin in 1953. He successfully defended the title three times before losing it to Sugar Ray Robinson in 1955.

Olson retired in 1966 with a 98-16-2 record and 48 knockouts, with victories over Joey Maxim, Kid Gavilan and Tiger Jones, among other notables.

The other new Hall of Famers, selected by members of the Boxing Writers Association and a panel of boxing historians, are Jeff Chandler, Ken Buchanan, Tito Lectoure, Jimmy Carter, Jimmy Barry, Battling Levinsky, Billy Petrolle, Ad Wolgast, Jeff Dickson, Dan Morgan and Arthur Chambers.
