Punahou graduates Sean Kern and Brandon Brooks, who led UCLA to the NCAA national water polo championship this month, were named NCAA All-Americans yesterday.

Kern, a junior, was also named the Player of the Year. He was the NCAA Tournament's most valuable players, scoring four points in each of the Bruins' semifinal game against Massachusetts and in the final against Stanford.

It was the third first-team All-American honor for Kern, who earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation first-team all-conference honors.

He led the Bruins in scoring this season with a career-high 55 points.

Brooks, now playing on the UCLA men's basketball team, was an honorable mention selection. He had an outstanding freshman season after taking over as the starting goalkeeper midway through the year for the injured Parson Bonderson; the Bruins went 12-1 with Brooks in goal.

UCLA's Guy Baker was named coach of the year.
