offers ways to dispose
of Christmas treesChristmas is tomorrow -- which means it's time to start thinking about getting rid of the Christmas tree.
The state, city and a private company are offering ways to dispose of Christmas trees as part of the TreeCycling 2000 campaign.
The state will have 13 Oahu sites where trees can be taken from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Jan. 8 and 15. Some locations will have tree grinders and others will be collection sites, from where the city will haul the trees to a grinder.
Meanwhile, BFI Hawaii will accept and recycle office Christmas trees from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 4 on the mauka side of King Street at Fort Street Mall, and at the same times Jan. 6 on Bishop Street between Merchant and Queen streets on the Diamond Head side.
The city provides year-round green waste drop-off at all refuse convenience centers from 7 a.m to 6 p.m. daily. Call 527-5335 for directions to the nearest center.
Flocked trees or trees with tinsel, nails, metal clips or other objects will not be accepted for recycling. The state also asked that trees be dropped off at designated times and dates.
