The Surf & Sea Haleiwa International Open Surfing Championships enters its third decade of competition after a brief hiatus from Ali'i Beach Park. Surf & Sea
meet returnsThe event has allowed generations of North Shore surfers to put on a good show before friends and family, and test their competitive skills against surfers from around the world.
The holding period for the four-day event is today through Jan. 4. Competition is in men's shortboard divisions from boys (14-under) through senior men (40-older). The longboard competition has a women's division, and age groupings for wahine and kane together.

St. Louis finishes No. 7
The St. Louis School football team finished seventh in the final Fox Sports Net Fab 50 national poll.The Crusaders (15-1) won the inaugural Hawaii state high school championship earlier this month. St. Louis was the only team among the top nine that had a loss.
Evangel Christian (15-0) of Shreveport, La., claimed the mythical national championship. The No. 2 ranking went to Robert E. Lee (15-0) of Midland, Texas.
Imua 2000 fun run set
Imua 2000, a 10-kilometer fun run to benefit the Aloha United Way, is scheduled for Jan. 29 at Kahala Mall.Sponsored by the Kamehameha Schools, the run begins at 7 a.m. Awards will be given for the top three male and female finishers in 14 age-group divisions.
The entry fee is $18 per person if postmarked by Jan. 22. Race-day registration is $25.

Ewa routs Waialae
Lon Yamaguchi's two-run double highlighted a five-run sixth as Ewa pulled away from Waialae for a 17-9 victory in an Oahu Senior AJA baseball game at Hans L'Orange Field last night.Ewa trailed, 6-3, going into the top of the sixth but scored 14 runs over the next three innings for the win.
