for another awardHawaii football coach June Jones is up for more coach-of-the-year honors.
Jones is among seven finalists for the Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award for the 1999 season.
Others are Barry Alvarez of the University of Wisconsin, Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech, Bobby Bowden of Florida State, Mike DuBose of the University of Alabama, Glen Mason of the University of Minnesota, and Bob Pruett of Marshall University.
Jones was named national coach of the year by The Sporting News and CNN-Sports Illustrated earlier this month for guiding the Rainbow Warriors to an 8-4 record and share of the Western Athletic Conference title in his first season at Hawaii. UH went 0-12 last year.
Jones received the second-highest number of votes, after Beamer, in voting for The Associated Press' College Coach of the Year.
The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association selected the finalists for the Bryant award. The winner will be announced Jan. 6.
