UCLA heads tourney field

No. 17-ranked UCLA and Maine will tip off the second annual Pearl Harbor Invitational basketball tournament, hosted by Brigham Young-Hawaii, at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie.

The other first-round pairings are Colorado State vs. Florida A&M at 3 p.m., South Florida vs. The Citadel at 6 p.m. and San Jose State vs. BYUH at 8.

Each of the teams will be asked to represent one of the ships present in Pearl Harbor at the time of the Dec. 7, 1941, surprise attack. The teams will take part in a special wreath-laying ceremony at the Arizona Memorial Monday.

Last year's inaugural tournament was won by Michigan State, which went on to reach the Final Four nationally.

Quarterback club lineup

Mitch Barnhart, the Oregon State athletic director, will be one of the speakers at Monday's Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at the Pagoda Hotel. Also on the dais will be Arizona State athletic director Dr. Kevin White and Don Grenshaw, the director of the Nike program that sponsors the Iolani Boys Basketball Classic.

Lunch is at 11 a.m. followed by the noon program.
