Staff and wire reports
Div. II title gameBATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- Eight is great but nine would be more than fine. That's the attitude the top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii women's volleyball team takes into today's championship match.
The Seasiders (28-2) go for their ninth national title, and their first in NCAA Division II, when taking on seventh-ranked Tampa (31-4) at 2 p.m. HST. BYU-Hawaii advanced with a quick 15-0, 15-5, 15-5 victory over No. 2 Northern Kentucky in a semifinal match yesterday.
"We took them out of their game play right from the start," said BYUH coach Wilfred Navalta.
Middle blocker Karla Ribeiro led BYUH with 10 kills on 13 attempts with no errors, hitting .769.
