Seasiders roll
From staff and wire reports
into D-II semisTwo all-Americans were two too many for North Dakota State last night. Top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii's two all-Americans - Arlete Silva and Vanessa Valansi -- combined for 36 kills as the second-ranked Seasiders disposed of the Bison, 15-5, 15-10, 18-16, to advance to today's semifinals of the NCAA Division II women's national championship volleyball tournament at Battle Creek, Mich.
BYU-Hawaii (28-2) will face No. 2 Northern Kentucky at 2:30 p.m. Tomorrow's final is set for 2 p.m.
Yesterday, Silva finished with 20 kills, including the match-ender that completed an improbable rally by the Seasiders. BYU-Hawaii trailed North Dakota State, 12-5 and 14-11, holding off several game points before tying it at 14 and eventually winning on Silva's 20th kill.
Valansi added 16 kills and all-American setter Juliana Lima had 51 assists. The Seasiders finished with seven aces, five by Karla Ribeiro.
The Bison (29-4) were led by Geri Getchell's 14 kills. It was the second consecutive year that a team from Hawaii ended North Dakota State's title hopes. In last year's national championship game, Hawaii Pacific defeated the Bison.
