Top honors to
Holland and Vegas

HAWAII'S collegiate soccer players continue to harvest postseason awards, led by seniors Katy Holland and Alicia Vegas.

Holland (Moanalua) has been named the co-women's soccer player of the year in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. She shares the honor with DePauw's Beth Walse.

Holland, a striker for Trinity University in San Antonio, also is on the all-SCAC first-team for the second consecutive season.

Vegas (Waimea) of Simpson College is the co-MVP of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, along with Luther's Jennifer Shinbori.

Vegas also was MVP in 1997 and a first-team all-conference pick four consecutive years.

Brian Ching (Kamehameha), a 6-foot junior striker for Gonzaga, is an All-West Coast Conference first-team member. He scored 13 goals and had seven assists for the 9-8-1 Bulldogs.

Gonzaga senior defender J.C. Fernandez (Maui), is an All-WCC second-team selection.

KJ Nishikawa (Iolani) has been named to the All-Big West Conference second team.

The 5-foot-6 junior midfielder scored once and assisted on two goals for the Pacific Tigers.

Nishikawa injured her right knee Oct. 17 in a match against Cal State Fullerton and will have surgery next month.

Named to the All-North Central Conference second team were senior striker Jackie Pang and junior defender Megan Inouye, both Mililani graduates. They were instrumental in Northern Colorado posting a 15-3-0 record, its all-time best.

Pang set the single-season record for assists (12) and holds the Bears' career marks for assists (28) and points (88).

Sophomore Jason Efhan (Kapaa) was named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team. He scored 12 goals and added four assists for Southern Colorado. The Thunderwolves (15-5-1) were league champions.

Freshman Mia Moe (Punahou), a Loyola Marymount midfielder, earned West Coast Conference honorable mention.
