Tom Gould walks past the crown of the landmark Dole pineapple
water tower at the edge of the Dole Cannery parking lot. The
60-ton water tower, built in 1923, was dismantled in 1993
because its steel structure had become dangerously corroded.
Shopping center manager Castle and Cooke had hoped to
build a new pineapple at the Cannery complex but estimates
the project's cost at up to $1 million. There are no immediate
plans for what's left of the old pineapple.
