OHA panel post vacated

Star-BulletinOffice of Hawaiian Affairs trustee Hannah K. Springer has resigned from her post as board vice chairwoman.
In a memo Monday to OHA officials, Springer said she resigned as vice chairwoman effective Nov. 12 and stepped down from her leadership of OHA's land committee.
Springer, who could not be reached for comment yesterday, remains a trustee. Her term expires at the end of next year. An OHA spokesman said Springer does not intend to make any statements to the media.
OHA bylaws require a majority of five trustees to elect board leaders and committee chairmen. Trustee Mililani Trask serves as vice chairwoman of the Land Committee and will assume its leadership until a new chief can be chosen.
OHA Chairwoman Rowena Akana said she would like the board to take up the matter of the vice chairmanship at the same time it selects a new interim trustee for Kauai to replace retired trustee Moses Keale.
No date has been set to do so. The OHA board has until Dec. 31 to select an interim trustee or Gov. Ben Cayetano will appoint one.
