Costume contests, prizes and goodie bags will be part of the Spooktacular, a benefit for the Girl Scouts of Hawaii.

Tickets are $8; validated parking will be available at the Beachcomber, Island Colony Hotel, Miramar Hotel and Waikiki Shopping Plaza.

The event, set for the Magic of Polynesia Showroom, is produced by Carroll and illusionist John Hirokawa.

Learn how to install window treatments, lay ceramic tile, or other home improvement basics through a series of free clinics offered at The Home Depot 421 Alakea St. store.

The clinics will run throughout November, offering step-by-step instructions related to each project as follows:

Mondays

7 p.m. -- Wall coverings

Fridays

7 p.m. -- How to install window treatments

Saturdays and Sundays

9 a.m. -- Kids workshops
10 a.m. -- How to install Simply Natural flooring
11 a.m. -- How to lay ceramic tile
2 p.m. -- Basic plumbing
3 p.m. -- How to install a door lock
4 p.m. -- Basic electrical
