Frank Fujii and Connie Shaw-Fujii are among nine Honolulu police sergeants being promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

HPD spokeswoman Jean Motoyama believes it's the first time the department has ever promoted a husband and wife on the same day.

"I was hoping to make it before him so I could boss him around," said Connie Shaw-Fujii kiddingly.

Shaw-Fujii, 39, who speaks Japanese fluently and is a member of the department's crisis negotiating team, will remain in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Frank Fujii, 44, will be assigned to the Kapolei-Waianae patrol district. He has been with HPD for more than 23 years.

The couple, who met at HPD, have a combined total of 42 years with the department.

The couple have been married 11 years and have three children.

Daniel Hanagami, who spearheaded the police investigation of Ewa Villages, also was among those promoted yesterday. Hanagami, promoted to captain, will be an executive officer in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Others promoted to lieutenant were Gilbert Brown, Bernadine Campbell, Janet Crotteau, David Eber, Karen Huston, Kurt Kendro and Keith Lima.

Chief Lee Donohue also promoted 18 officers to sergeant, nine to detective and 23 to corporal (metropolitan II).
