’Bows open with
Nov. 7 exhibition

The Northwest All-Stars, a traveling exhibition basketball team, will be the University of Hawaii's first opponent of the 1999-2000 season.

Head coach Riley Wallace said the game is scheduled for Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m., at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Northwest All-Stars will play in place of the Chinese National Team, which cannot play due to complications with China's sports federation.

The Rainbows' second opponent will also be an exhibition team. The California All-Stars, who beat Hawaii last November, will return to the Stan Sheriff Center on Nov. 14 for a game starting at 4:30 p.m.

The first collegiate game for the Rainbows will be played Nov. 19 against Tennessee-Martin in the VoiceStream Wireless Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH cross-country runner first to win WAC honor

Hawaii sophomore Casey McGuire-Turcotte was named Western Athletic Conference women's cross-country Athlete of the Week yesterday.

She is the first-ever Rainbow Wahine to earn the honor in the three years UH has been running in the WAC.

McGuire-Turcotte, of Na'alehu on the Big Island, placed sixth overall at the UNLV Invitational Oct. 16, finishing the 5-kilometer race in 18 minutes and 40 seconds, her second-best time of the season.

She has been UH's top finisher in four of its five meets this season.

Southern Methodist's Clyde Colenso earned male WAC honors.

Wahine still second

The undefeated University of Hawaii women's volleyball team remained the No. 2 team in the country according to yesterday's AVCA Division I Coaches poll.
