The Waikiki Children's Festival's Ultimate Keiki Fun Day Saturday at the Honolulu Zoo boasts an impressive entertainment line-up, but the performers were not chosen for talent alone. Celebrate keiki at the zoo
Organizers wanted participants who could be good role models, said event director Jeff Apaka. "We want to stimulate children's minds and pique their interest in sports and studies," he said. "We want to push for them to stay away from drugs and stay in school."
Darrell Labrado, a freshman at Molokai High, is among the young entertainers on the bill. His "Shaka the Moon" disc is topping the charts in Maui County and his live performances are a hit with young fans, according to Brad Thayne of Monkeypod Records.
