Abracadabra crew
prepares for challenge

Abracadabra 2000, which will represent the Waikiki Yacht Club in the America's Cup Challengers Series beginning Oct. 18 at Auckland, N.Z., is training in New Zealand waters under the guidance of skipper John Kolius.

QB Club speakers

Guest speakers at the Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon Monday are Hawaii assistant football coaches Wes Suan and George Lumpkin, Rainbows men's basketball coach Riley Wallace and sportscaster Jeff Ruffolo.

Lunch at the Pagoda restaurant is served at 11:30 a.m. The program begins at noon.

That's the Ticket Plus

Ticket Plus, Inc. will donate $100 to the University of Hawaii Athletic Scholarship Fund for every UH first down this football season, starting with tonight's game against Texas-El Paso.

Parking options for games

New parking options have been developed by the Honolulu Police Department, UH and Aloha Stadium, designed to facilitate traffic flow into and out of the stadium.

Vehicles with four or more persons will be allowed into the stadium's lower Halawa lot beginning at 1 p.m.

Lots at Kam Drive-In and Leeward Community College will open at 4 p.m., with shuttles to the stadium every 15 minutes.

Express bus service has been expanded to Kapolei, Mililani and Village Park.

Roberts buses available

Roberts Hawaii is offering shuttle school bus service to UH games, starting tonight, from East Honolulu (Hawaii Kai, Kahala) and the Leeward side (Waianae, Nanakuli, Kapolei). The round-trip fare is $5. For more information, call 832-4886.

Callaway golf qualifying

Qualifying rounds for the Callaway Hawaii State Open Golf Tournament will be played at 7 a.m., Friday, Oct. 8, at the following four sites:

Big Island-Hapuna Golf Course (Phone 808-880-3000);

Kauai-Poipu Bay Resort (808-742-8711);

Maui-Makena Resort, South Course (808-879-3344);

Oahu-Hawaii Prince G.C. (808-944-4567).

Nonexempt players are asked to call for their tee assignments.

Toys for Tots tennis

Deadline for the 18th annual mixed doubles tournament Dec. 4-5 at Wentworth Courts on Pearl Harbor is Nov. 6. The $30 fee benefits Toys for Tots. For information, call 455-4528.
