Warriors on a roll
in Las Vegas volleyball

The Kamehameha girls' volleyball team went unbeaten in three pool-play matches, advancing to today's championship bracket of the Durango High School Fall Classic at Las Vegas.

The Warriors beat Berkeley Prep (Fla.), Mater Dei (Calif.) and Moapa Valley (Nev.) to reach the round of eight and double-elimination play.

UH, prep coaches on dais at QB Club luncheon

The featured speakers at Monday's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon will be Hawaii football coach June Jones, UH assistant coach Rich Miano and high school head coaches Ronald Oyama of Kaimuki and Don Botelho of Pac-5.

Lunch at the Pagoda Hotel Restaurant starts at 11:30 a.m. The program follows at noon.

Callaway State Open golf entry deadline is Monday

Monday is the entry deadline for the Callaway Hawaii State Open, to be played Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club.

All applications should be sent to the Aloha Section PGA at 770 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 715, Honolulu 96813.

There will be qualifying events, at several courses on Oct. 8.

Fun-run/walk to benefit Kailua High School

The Friends of Kailua High School, a nonprofit corporation composed of students, faculty, parents, alumni and other supporters, will sponsor a 5K (3.2-mile) fun-run/walk on Nov. 7.

Net proceeds will go to the Kailua High School Computer Academy.

The run/walk will start at 7 a.m. at the Surfriders' gym, proceed along Enchanted Lake and return to the school.

Entry fees, before Nov. 1, are $17 for those who want a T-shirt, $9 for those who don't or $10 for the T-shirt only.

Applications can be obtained in Hawaii Race magazine or at Kailua High School.

Mayor's Cup at Ala Wai

The 20th annual Mayor's Cup tournament is set for Oct. 2-3 at the Ala Wai Golf Course, with play in Championship, A, B, C and Ladies flights.

The entry fee of $55 (green and cart fees not included) covers a banquet Oct. 4 at the Silver Dragon Restaurant in the Kam Shopping Center.
