Book editors speak at
writers conferenceThe conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hawaiian Regent Hotel third-floor Koa Room.
The guest editors are:
Julia Serebinsky, HarperCollins, who worked with best-selling authors Joyce Carol Oates, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Judge Judy Sheindlin and Dr. Dean Ornish.
Joe Veltre, St. Martin's Press, who oversees the Minotaur paperback mystery program. His recently acquired books include "My Life as a Seer" by Edgar Cayce, "Zen and the City of Angels" by Elizabeth Cosin and "The Science of Star Wars" by Jeanne Cavelos.
Jeff Neuman, Simon and Schuster, whose recent acquisitions include recent New York Times best sellers "The Jordan Rules," "A Season on the Brink" and Harvey Penick's "Little Red Book."
In addition, Jim Rumford will present an author's perspective on how to attract a national publisher. His book, "The Island Below the Star," published by Houghton Mifflin, was selected by the New York Times as one of the 10 best children's books of 1998.
Registration for the all-day conference is $85, $60 for students.
