Honolulu Police Chief Lee Donohue, hospitalized with an irregular heart rhythm over the weekend, will be out of his office about two weeks.

"According to his doctor, Chief Donohue did not have a heart attack, did not have a stroke, did not have a cardiac arrest," said Acting Police Chief William Clark, Donohue's deputy. Early media reports said Donohue, 57, suffered either a heart attack or cardiac arrest.

Donohue had just taken part in an "arrest and control" exercise at the police training academy on Saturday and was resting when he collapsed.

Donohue was transferred from St. Francis Medical Center West yesterday to Queen's Hospital, where he is expected to remain for several days, Clark said.

The chief is listed in satisfactory condition.

Clark, at a news conference yesterday, said the chief did not suffer damage to either his heart or any muscles, Clark said. "He should be back 100 percent."

While he downplayed the illness, Clark acknowledged early reports that said the use of a defibrillator and cardiopulmonary resuscitation may have saved the chief's life.
