Musashimaru one win
off tournament lead

TOKYO -- Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani of Hawaii, dragged down Kyokushuzan to improve to 5-1 and remain one win off the pace six days into the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament at Tokyo.

Miyabiyama was alone in the lead. He was outmuscled on the belt by Wakanosato but turned him around at the edge of the ring and then threw him over with his right arm hooked into Wakanosato's armpit to remain unbeaten.

Ozeki (champion) Chiyotaikai, yokozuna (grand champion) Musashimaru, No. 3 maegashira Akinoshima and No. 11 maegashira Wakanoyama were one victory behind the leader with five victories and one defeat.

Wrestling at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena in downtown Tokyo, Miyabiyama flipped No. 6 maegashira Wakanosato onto his back after a standoff, leaving Wakanosato at 3-3.

Chiyotaikai lost his lead in the tournament when he was bulldozed out by komusubi (junior champion second class) Musoyama, who ended the day at 4-2.

Yokozuna Wakanohana won the day's final bout when his opponent, No. 2 maegashira Asanosho, stepped out of the ring for his fifth defeat against one victory. Wakanohana was at 3-3.

In other major bouts, komusubi Kotonishiki lunged at sekiwake (junior champion) Kaio and drove him quickly from the ring. That put Kotonishiki at 3-3 and Kaio at 4-2.

Yokozuna Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani from Hawaii, pulled down No. 2 maegashira Kyokushuzan in the day's penultimate bout. Kyokushuzan, or Mongolian Batbayar Davaa, was left with one win against five losses.

No. 1 maegashira Tochiazuma was pushed out of the ring by the belt by sekiwake Tasanoumi. Tasanoumi was at 2-4 and Tochiazuma at 3-3.

No. 1 maegashira Tamakasuga shoved ozeki Takanonami from the ring for his fourth victory against two defeats. Takanonami was at 3-3.

No. 10 maegashira Tokistuumi tripped and lost to No. 12 maegashira Kyokutenho, or Mongolian Tsevegnyam Nyamjav. Kyokutenho was at 4-2 and Tokistuumi at 2-4.

In the juryo division, just below the senior makuuchi division, No. 10-ranked Hoshitango, or Argentine Imach Marcelo Salomon, was pushed from the ring by No. 13-ranked Kitazakura, leaving both at 4-2.

No. 10-ranked Sentoryu, or American Henry Armstrong Miller, pulled down No. 11-ranked Wakahayato for his third victory against as many losses. Wakahayato was at 2-4.

In makushita, the top junior division, No. 45-ranked Hoshiandesu pushed out No. 47-ranked Hidanotari for his third win against no losses.

No. 53-ranked Asashoyu (2-1) was thrust down by No. 55-ranked Wakakaze.

In sandanme, the second highest junior division, No. 7-ranked Kyokutenzan (2-1) was pushed down from behind by No. 5-ranked Shindo.

No. 66-ranked Ryuo was pushed from the ring by No.67-ranked Kiyonosho, ending up at 1-2.

No. 85-ranked Kaihakusan was tripped by No. 82-ranked Wakamitsuya

Wrestlers in junior divisions have only seven bouts during the 15-day tournament.
