The year 1941 brought World War II to Hawaii.
On Dec. 7, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, in a bid to to keep America pinned down in the North Pacific while its troops invaded targets in the East Indies and the Far East. More than 2,400 Americans died in the attack, with many more to follow as the United States entered the global conflict.
It was, as President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “A date which will live in infamy.” And Hawaii was centerstage.
