When your opponent is penalized for more yardage than your offense gains, you know you're in for a long night.

St. Louis held Punahou to negative 17 yards rushing and gained over 500 yards total offense for the fourth-straight game, winning 41-8, last night before 5,537 fans at Aloha Stadium.

For the Crusaders, winners of their last 12 games, their biggest obstacle was not Punahou's single-wing offense, which could only manage 69 yards in the three quarters St. Louis played its first team.

It was penalties.

The officials tagged St. Louis 10 times for 115 yards in the first three quarters, 46 more yards than Punahou's offense gained.

But the Crusaders left nothing to chance, all but deciding the outcome after a 14-0 first quarter.

But St. Louis coach Cal Lee was nonetheless unhappy with his team's performance. "I don't think we were real focused on playing today," he said. "(Punahou) did a good job -- forget the score. Good teams don't hurt themselves with penalties."

Although Punahou gave up 41 points, it was St. Louis's lowest point total in two nonconference games and two ILH games this season. Prior to last night, the Crusaders averaged 73.7 points a game. "I think we were pressured more in this game than in the other three games we played," Lee said.

Timmy Chang completed 21 out of 26 passes for 280 yards and 4 TDs, and Gerald Welch caught 12 passes for 138 yards and two TDs. Pesefea Fiaseu Jr. rushed 12 times for 146 yards, his third 100-yard game this season.

Punahou did have bright spots.

The Buffanblu broke an eight-quarter scoreless streak against St. Louis when Anthony Prinzivalli hit Chuck Fujita on a 10-yard slant in the fourth quarter. The offense gained 125 yards against St. Louis' second- and third-stringers.

Also, Shaun Takao returned an interception 50 yards in the second quarter.

And Punahou became the first team this season to force St. Louis to punt.

Justin Faimealelei kicked a 30-yard field goal with 15 seconds to play, lifting the Kaimuki Bulldogs past the Roosevelt Rough Riders, 23-20, in an Oahu Interscholastic Association football game at Roosevelt last night.

Kaimuki (3-0) had tied the game on a 74-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Caires to Kila Kamakawiwo'ole with 8:29 left but Faimealelei's extra-point kick was no good.

After Roosevelt (2-1) was forced to punt out of its end zone, the Bulldogs moved the ball into range for Faimealelei's game-winning boot.

Chad Owens passed for one touchdown and ran for another to trigger a 20-point second quarter for Roosevelt.
