Queen Lili'uokalani

Honoring the queen

Music composed by Queen Lili'uokalani will be performed tomorrow in celebration of her birthday in the 'Iolani Palace Queen's Serenade, 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the palace steps. And this year, the event is paired with the opening ceremony of Aloha Festivals.

The Aloha Festivals royal court participants and other parties will present ho'okupu, or gifts, in memory of the queen, and entertainment will be provided by the Royal Hawaiian Band, and winners of Ka Himeni 'Ana singing contest and the Queen Lili'uokalani Keiki Hula competition.

The statewide Aloha Festivals presents some 300 events on six islands over a two-month period, in celebration of island traditions and culture. Events are funded, in part, through sale of Aloha Festivals ribbons.
