A truck lost its brakes on the Pali Highway near the
Pauoa Road cutoff shortly after 1 p.m. yesterday.
The runaway truck went through two intersections,
spilling its load and hitting several cars before the
driver was able to bring it to a stop. Dennis Ramos,
the driver of the truck owned by Texeira Trucking,
was taken to Queen's hospital after complaining of
back pain. Gravel on the highway closed all three
town-bound lanes of the highway between Pauoa
Road and School Street for several hours while
crews cleaned it up. One of the cars damaged by
the runaway truck ended up on the median strip.
The truck came to a stop farther down the highway
in front of the fire station at 107 S. Beretania St.
