Oahu Cattlemen's Association
Ridin, ropin,
and more
The islands' rich ranching history will be honored during the second-annual Statewide Paniolo Festival taking place 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Kualoa Ranch.
Several paniolo will be honored during the Paniolo Hall of Fame ceremony and local ranches will participate in team roping, cattle penning and paint branding competitions, giving observers a rare opportunity to see island cowboys at work.
There will be handcrafted items for sale as well, and food vendors will be selling Hawaiian plates, barbecue plate, sandwiches and more. Take a line-dancing lesson and learn to pitch horseshoes if you want.
There will be entertainment throughout the day, including performances by Ale'a, a group of four young Hawaiian musicians who worked with Edgy Lee on her "Na Mele O Paniolo" film, as well as The Krush, Lehua Dance Co., the Opihi Pickers, Koa and The City Bus Drivers, musicians with day jobs as implied.
Admission to the festival is free.
