closed 7 months

Access to Miller Street will be closed for seven months starting Sept. 3 because of construction of The Queen's Medical Center's new emergency room and parking structure.

A 42-inch water line and other utilities in the street must be relocated to make way for an underground tunnel that will connect the emergency drop-off area to a new hospital parking structure to be built on the Miller Street triangle, Queen's said.

Private vehicles will be able to drop off patients at the new emergency room or Same Day Surgery Center, then go through the tunnel to the new parking facility.

Patients, visitors and other motorists who would normally use Miller Street to reach Lusitana Street are encouraged to take these alternate routes:

If coming from the Ewa side, take H-1 Freeway to the Vineyard Boulevard exit, then follow Vineyard to Lusitana.

Or get off H-1 Freeway at the Punchbowl Street exit, then turn right from Punchbowl Street onto Vineyard. Make a U-turn at the Queen Emma Street intersection and take Vineyard back to Lusitana Street.

Or get off H-1 Freeway at the Kinau Street exit, turn right onto Ward Avenue, then turn right from Ward Avenue onto Beretania Street. Then turn right from Beretania Street onto either Alapai, Lisbon or Lauhala Streets to Lusitana Street.

If coming from the windward side, the route is unchanged: From Pali Highway turn left onto Vineyard Boulevard and continue to Lusitana Street.

If coming from Koko Head side, the route again is unchanged: Get off H-1 Freeway at the Vineyard Boulevard exit, make a U-turn at the Punchbowl Street intersection. then take Vineyard to Lusitana Street.
