The Art Center's film classes will include analysis
and screenings of key films.
"Metropolis," "Charlie Chan at the Opera," "The Maltese Falcon," "The Man From Planet X," "Blade Runner." These are some of the films that will be discussed during a new seven-week film course, "Movies of Mystery & Imagination," running 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Sept. 9 at the Academy Art Center at Linekona. explore movie mysteryInstructor Rick Kraemer will guide the class through an exploration of genres or themes such as private eye and detective films, psychological thrillers, masters of the macabre, film noir and sci-fi from Britain. Tuition is $70, with a discount for academy members. Enrollment is limited.
If you need a double fix of film, another course, "Century of Cinema" is being offered, with 14 sessions 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 13 to Dec. 13. Tuition is $140, with a $10 discount for members.
Instructor Kraemer will lead discussions on American movie mythology, focusing on contributions of great directors, film techniques and foreign influences. There will be screenings of feature-length films, including many rare and unusual offerings.
