An aerial search yesterday of Kahana Valley ended with no trace of two women from Denmark, who have not been seen since Saturday.

Fire Rescue 1 Capt. David Mortensen said a helicopter searched the ridge lines from Kahana Valley toward Punaluu. The search was called off in late afternoon when the helicopter experienced mechanical problems.

Police this morning were following up leads from people who may have seen Marianne Konnerup and Anitta Winther, who are both 21 years old.

Police focused their efforts on Kahana Valley after a man said he had a conversation with the women. Residents also told authorities they saw the women walking into Kahana Valley. Their bicycles were discovered locked up and parked in front of the Hawaii Kai Foodland, police said. The women might have taken TheBus to the North Shore.

Konnerup and Winther, recently graduated from college, are tourists from Denmark and were staying at asHawaii Kai home.

Tuesday, fire rescue and air units searched the Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach areas.

The two have been in Hawaii since June 20 and were planning on staying on the islands for three months, said detective Phillip Camero, of the police Missing Persons Detail. They were planning on continuing their travels to Thailand, Fiji or Australia.

Camero said foul play is not suspected as of today.

Konnerup is Caucasian, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 120 pounds with blond-red hair and blue eyes.

Winther is Caucasian, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 115 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of the women can call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
