Stanley Maka was one of those who came to pay their respects to
Carpenters Union head Walter Kupau. A memorial service for the
longtime labor leader was held today at Borthwick Mortuary on
Maunakea Street. Kupau died last week of an apparent heart attack.

Dean D. Ahana, 51, of Honolulu, a security attendant I for the state Department of Public Safety, Protective Services Division, died Saturday in Honolulu. Alfred L. Alipot, 89, of Pearl City, a World War II veteran with the U.S. Army, died Aug. 3 in Pearl City. David M. Blackmer, 74, of Hilo, a retired teacher, died Sunday in Hilo Hospital. Born in California, he is survived by wife Margaret, daughter Dania Zempel, brother Robert, and two grandchildren. Santiago M. Nebres, 74, of Ewa Beach, a retired custodian for Ewa Beach Shopping Center, died Aug. 10 in Ewa Beach. He also served in the Philippine Army during World War II.
