Wong out for season
By Pat Bigold
Star-BulletinKailua's Joe Hauoli Wong, a seventh-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins, is out for the season with a knee injury, according to a club spokesman.
Neal Gulkis said that the 6-foot-6, 315-pounder, who played for both Hawaii and BYU, tore an anterior cruciate ligament in an intrasquad scrimmage on Aug. 1.
He said the team had no plans to announce Wong's status until he undergoes surgery.
Wong signed a three-year contract with the Dolphins only four days before his injury.
Gulkis said he will remain on the preseason roster.
Wong's injury leaves 17 players with Hawaii ties still active in NFL training camps.
