Correa pitches Hawaii
to Big League victory

Kyle Correa struck out seven over seven innings as Hawaii defeated Delaware, 6-2, in the Little League Big League World Series yesterday at Tucson, Ariz.

Hawaii improved to 2-1 in the tournament for 16-18 year olds. It plays host Tucson today and a win would put Hawaii in the USA championship finals.

Pearl City wins opener

Hoku Tampos struck out 10 in a complete-game pitching performance and drove in three runs to lead Pearl City past Wyoming, 10-6, yesterday in the Little League Western Regional for 11-12-year-olds at San Bernardino, Calif.

Thomas Yamasaki hit a two-run homer for Pearl City, which plays Oregon in the second round today.

Japan-Hawaii series

The Japan-Hawaii Goodwill Baseball Series continues its long tradition of international sportsmanship with a five-game series beginning Saturday.

The series, which started in 1953, alternates biennially between Hawaii and Japan. Participating will be high school teams from Oahu, the Big Island and Japan.

Japan will take on the Big Island all-star team, with players from Konawaena, Kealakehe and Waiakea high schools, in 1 p.m. games Saturday and Sunday at the Old Kona Airport Field. The three games on Oahu will all be held at Hans L'Orange Park at 3:20 p.m. - Tuesday against Campbell, Wednesday against Waipahu and Thursday against Kalani.

There is no admission charge.

UH baseball tryout

The University of Hawaii-Manoa baseball program will be conducting tryouts for next season's team, Aug. 25, 3:45 p.m. Meet at the blue section directly behind home plate at Rainbow Stadium.

Prospective players must be full-time students at UH-Manoa.

Triathlon seminar

Triathlon veterans Julie Moss and Jenny Wood will be on hand to offer tips on swimming, cycling and running Aug. 21 at NikeTown (2080 Kalakaua Ave.)

The seminar is in preparation for the Sept. 12 Na Wahine Spring Triathlon.

Following the seminar will be a 5K training run led by Moss and Wood. Call 943-6453 for information.
