Waikiki concert is
an all-star event
for local songsters

Sheraton Hotels intends to bring kama'aina back to Waikiki through its star-studded fund-raiser concert, "Pili Mau, Together Forever."

The entertainment roster reads like a who's who of local entertainment, starting with the Makaha Sons, O'Brien Eselu, Hapa, Jake Shimabukuro of Pure Heart, Melveen Leed, Loyal Garner, Myra English, Karen Keawehawai'i, and more.

The event starts at 5 p.m. Friday outside the Sheraton Waikiki Hawaii Ballroom. Pupu and beverages will be available at nominal prices.

Doors to the ballroom will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for Pili Mau are $20 in advance, available at the Sheraton Waikiki dining desk; Tower Records locations on Keeaumoku, at Kahala Mall and Pearl Kai; Records Hawaii on South Beretania Street; Harry's Music in Kaimuki; and Hungry Ear Records in Kailua. Tickets will be $25 at the door.

For more information, call the Sheraton at 922-4422.

Funds raised at the event will benefit the Waikiki Community Center, which since 1982 has provided child care, senior-citizen programs, an emergency food pantry, thrift shop and other human services within the Waikiki community. The center uses no government funds, relying on donations, program fees and fund-raising efforts to keep running.
